FAST TALK ABOUT FOOD: Lightning Talks and Networking

Showcasing the work of the Pioneer Valley higher education community on food, agriculture and food systems.

Wednesday, November 9, 2011, 6-8 p.m. at Smith Vocational & Agricultural High School in Northampton

A series of five-minute presentations * Facilitated networking experience *A simple meal of local origins will be served*

Sponsored by PVGrows and its Higher Education Working Group, with support from the UMass Center for Agriculture.

WHAT ARE LIGHTNING TALKS?
Presentations about an effort or project made in five minutes from start to finish. No slide presentations, one background slide OK. Handouts OK.

WHO CAN APPLY TO PRESENT?
Teachers, students, researchers, librarians or staff involved one way or another with a university or college in the Valley (Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin counties). We will select presentations to represent a variety of institutions and a diverse set of roles with particular emphasis on innovative, action-based projects.

WHAT’S THE PURPOSE?
To create a stronger network of those involved in one of the Valley¹s premier sectors ­ higher education ­ and involved in a variety of food-related topics. We hope to build a stronger community of interest which gives rise to new opportunities for learning, research and action.

HOW DO I APPLY?

IMPORTANT DETAILS
* You may use only one slide projected as a visual anchor. You are welcometo bring a poster for exhibit and/or paper handouts. No multi-slidePowerpoint presentations.

* Five minutes means five minutes. You will be asked to end your presentation at five minutes whether you have completed it or not. We recommend that you do a live, aloud, timed run through before November 9.

* Speakers are asked to remain at the event through its conclusion and participate in the networking part of the evening, expected to end by 8:00.

ABOUT PVGROWS
PVGrows
is a network of people and organizations that share common interests in the Pioneer Valley food and agriculture system. It provides a forum for members to collaborate and act together. Membership is open to individuals, organizations, agencies, or businesses that self-identify as being aligned with our mission. Members are invited to participate in PVGrows meetings and Working Groups, and to join the PVGrows listserv. At present, there are no membership fees.
