The Massachusetts Land Initiative for Tomorrow (MassLIFT) is inviting applications from service learning educators for our 2011- 2012 AmeriCorps service positions.

PRESS RELEASE AmeriCorps MassLIFT was designed by a collaboration of seven regional land trusts and watershed associations to meet community needs for land protection, stewardship of protected lands, conservation outreach and education, and service learning that engages young people in conservation. AmeriCorps MassLIFT members serve in one of 12 regional conservation organizations across the state, and in one of four positions: land steward, regional conservationist, service learning coordinator, or community outreach coordinator.  Our  service learning coordinators design projects that allow children and youth to learn about working lands while contributing to the protection and stewardship of farms, forests, wildlife habitats, watershed areas, community gardens, and parks. Examples of service learning activities developed by past members include: exploring local vernal pools and learning about their protection; creating pollinator, rain, or community gardens; monitoring streams; surveying wildlife; creating and maintaining trails on protected lands; constructing and installing wood duck boxes, and a variety of other conservation service projects.

MassLIFT  has openings for 20 AmeriCorps positions for the service term September 12, 2011 – August 24, 2012.  These are full-time positions, averaging 35 hours per week,  including some evenings and weekends.   They come with stipends up to $12,100 for the year, health insurance, and the potential to earn a $5,550 education award upon successful completion of 1,700 hours and 11.5 months of service.

The application deadline is July 8, 2011.  Additional applications will be accepted and reviewed on an as needed basis.  Application specifics and further information about AmeriCorps-MassLIFT partners and service positions can be found on the Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust website: www.mountgrace.org/americorps-masslift <http://mountgrace.org/americorps-masslift> , and on the web pages of our partner sites.  For further information contact Dee Robbins, robbins@mountgrace.org.   No phone calls please.
