Help Create the Franklin County Week of Winter Fare and Celebrate Locally Grown Food

Saturday, February 4, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and February 4-12

In the midst of winter, Franklin County will be abuzz with the fun and great flavors of indoor farmers’ markets and community events celebrating locally grown food. The monthly Greenfield Winter Farmers’ Market will be held the first Saturday of each month from January to March from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Second Congregational Church, Court Square, Greenfield (next to the Town Common, credit cards and SNAP/EBT accepted, free admission). The Market includes vendors selling a wide range of locally grown and produced food.

The February 4 Greenfield Winter Farmers’ Market will be the beginning of the Franklin County Week of Winter Fare and will include free workshops about growing, preparing and preserving locally grown food and a local food barter fair. From Feb. 4 to Feb. 12, the Franklin County Week of Winter Fare will feature local food potlucks, films, recipe swaps, seed swaps, tours, and workshops.

To create the Franklin County Week of Winter Fare, the all-volunteer organizing committee needs help:

1) Workshop leaders are needed to facilitate brief, free workshops about growing, enjoying, and preserving locally grown food at the Greenfield Winter Farmers’ Market on Feb. 4. The workshops will take place during the Market, at the Second Congregational Church, and will be free to participants. There are a limited number of 45 minute workshop slots available. We provide the place, participants, and event promotion, you provide the expertise and any materials.

2) Events during the Franklin County Week of Winter Fare are sponsored by Franklin County groups and organizations and promoted by the Franklin County Winter Fare organizers. Last year’s events included local food potlucks sponsored by area churches and neighborhood groups, food and beverage tastings, films, workshops, and panel discussions. You plan and organize it, we’ll promote it (we’re REALLY skilled at promoting events). Franklin County Week of Winter Fare events can be held on any day between February 4 and February 12, and be any length of time, held in any location in Franklin County, and can be free or require a registration fee.
