GETTING TO ZERO GARBAGE

By David Starr – I know it may be months away but there is a Special Collection of Rigid Plastics scheduled for Saturday, September 17th. This is a SPECIAL collection because we aren’t normally permitted to recycle items made of rigid plastics. Our recycling centers don’t normally accept them.

While it would be great if we could recycle these plastics with the same convenience that we recycle bottles, cans and paper, we aren’t able to do that at this point.

SAVE YOUR RIGID PLASTICS AND DISPOSE OF THEM IN THIS RARE PLASTICS COLLECTION ON SEPTEMBER 17TH ONLY.

What’s a rigid plastic?

Well, toys are usually made of rigid plastic. Plastic flower pots and trays. Plastic Buckets. Yard furniture.

See the attached flyer to better help you understand what the DPW will be collecting.

Start collecting now and bring it all on September 17th (I’ve been collecting mine since the last collection 18 months ago). If your rigid plastics aren’t recycled on September 17th, they’ll just add to the amount of waste being buried in landfills.

Feel free to contact Karen Bouquillon at kbouquillon@nohodpw.org with any questions about acceptable materials.
