Important News Regarding the NESEA K-12 Education Department

PRESS RELEASE: This has been a spectacular year for NESEA’s Education Department. The Education staff have had a very full year with the deliverance of so many programs.  We had several programs running simultaneously including, Solar Sails New York: Expansion of Solar and Wind Energy Education for School Power…Naturally, a two-year service contract with the New York State Energy and Research Development Authority; Clean Energy for a Clean Environment, sponsored locally be the Western Massachusetts Electric Company; Building Energy Educators’ Summit, sponsored by Solar Wave; and Junior Solar Sprint, sponsored by the U.S. Army Educational Outreach Program.

That said, just as there is a time and season for everything, the K-12 Education Department is coming to the end of its season. We hope that all the seeds we have sown throughout the years are blossoming and creating new seeds elsewhere.

Effective July 1, 2011, there will no longer be a NESEA K-12 Education Department. Please know that even though this decision has come to pass, that NESEA deeply appreciates our education funders, workshop participants, and program volunteers.

Also please know that the Northeast Junior Solar Sprint Championship is ON and if you are a volunteer or would like to be we still need your help! Please join us in creating a fantastic send off for the K-12 Education Department by volunteering at this year’s Championship. Contact Event Planner Kathleen Capuras for more information: kcapuras@nesea.org; 413-774-6051 x14.
Please also know that the area and state races that lead into the Championship are of course taking place. For more information go to JSS.

AND, if you have registered for a Solar Sense workshop this spring they are still on! Visit http://www.nesea.org/k-12/events/ for more information.

The NESEA K-12 Education Department legacy will live on in individual educators who participated in our programs and are now teaching their students what they learned at NESEA workshops. NESEA’s educational work will also live on in all our parters and collaborators. Teachers you can still look to your local and state resources: state energy education programs, environmental education centers and associations, and teachers associations.  Many of the JSS Coordinators fall into one or more category. Develop deeper ties to them.

Please feel free to connect with Susan and Arianna until June 24th. You can reach the Education Department at 413-774-6051. Arianna  x21; Susan x 27 or email us at agrindrod@nesea.org or sreyes@nesea.org.

Arianna is still considering what dreams to manifest for the future while Susan plans to continue her work as a  Science & Sustainability Educator, and will available on a consulting basis. Susan welcomes requests for workshops & curriculum development.

Thank you all for your support over the years. It’s been a good ride.

Sincerely,
Arianna Alexsandra Grindrod, Education Director
Susan Reyes, Science Educator
